here is what we know about luv*jam: known to his mum as andrew cole, he is a house producer and dj from wrexham, north wales. enigmatic though he is, luv*jam has revealed more than enough personality between wax grooves. his generous string of white-hot releases on such labels as we play house, phonica, skylax, lany recordings, and his own crow castle cuts do more than enough talking. that sterling track record continues with his throne of blood debut.

-follow me!-, rave- and techno-classic by jam&spoon from the dawn of extatic and hypnotic rave sounds in the early nineties has been refurbished and repainted by some of the top-notch techno-producers/djs of the contemporary electronic music era.

in the 18 months since his brilliant debut release for we play house, luv jam has been steadily building his profile with a number of releases, and now he returns on vibrations with his first full ep of material since that auspicious first record. the eps a-side is a typically lush foray into stripped back, slo-mo house, with opener tough future utilizing little more than a 303 bassline and 909 kick to slowly build up to its raindrop crescendo, and >rubber band< employing a number a dreamy synths atop its tense, gurgling bass. the pace picks up on the b-side with >last floor hotel (mega mix)< upping the tempo and going into full on acid mode, with its furious pace accented with frenetic cowbell hits and industrial textures. the ep closes with >elastic band< a deeper excursion into jacking house, characterized by its flurry of handclaps, weighed up by its rubbery bassline.

as the visionquest imprint reaches release no.15, its still tough to pin point the labels signature sound. a melting pot of imagination and tastes for four of the globes most dynamic djs, visionquest brings together three fresh voices in music for the teen collection hot jam 96 – a sampler with an eclectic take on summer grooves.

introducing >the courts 12 inch, the first single from jam citys forthcoming debut album, out later this year on night slugs. a double-a side release that showcases the two extremes of the lps material - the sublime and the industrial. on the a-side is >the courts<, jcs rawest dancefloor-orientated work yet. hyper-tense club music built of skids, dribbles, passes, big jersey kicks, and permeated by an ostentatious slap bass. the result is a pounding, jacking grid of a rhythm track, moments of on-court action reassembled with robotic efficiency. on the flip, jam city links up with oaklands main attrakionz for a very special collaboration called >the nite life<. squadda b and mondrem.a.n. drop mesmerising other-wordly verses over jam’s low-slung beat. the atmosphere is dense, hazy with purple smoke and submerged in the smoggy californian marine layer.

the bowels of flapjack records are very excited and relieved to push that peruvian boy out onto some vinyl. what a relief! this new ep is so phat that we thought it might have required a trip to the hospital. there is no enema strong enough to work this hot piece out. this would require some dance floor surgery. >i cam to jam ep< is like the signature dish of peru and works like magic on the dance floor as well as your taste buds.

one night stand is jam factorys third release, a collaboration with new york-based vocalist mattie safer (formally of the rapture) over two 12 inches. this first 12 inch features the original version - a piano-driven chicago style anthem with heavy drums and a touch of acid. mattie delivers a classic house performance in his own instantly recognisable style. on the flip are two different dubs, one an incessant barrage of pianos, the other a thick slice of acid. this release is only available on vinyl.

jack this is a typically powerful and funky slice of peak-time techno from tom hades. the main hook comes from a big descending siren that is worked in around the groove and succession of drops and builds.
loco & jam (1605, mb elektronics) are selected for remix duties fresh from winning best new artist at the 2010 irish dance music awards. their mix takes the groove deeper but still retains the incendiary edge.
barnes bachelor rounds off the package with its linear, driving groove and gentle melodic shifts that lift up the darker, brooding undertones of the bassline. a subtle but effective track for the longer sets / early hours.
